Warm up to Watercolors by John Balacki
The Fountain Arts Center is pleased to present a program by watercolor artist John Balacki on Sunday, March 15th, at 2PM.   Balacki will speak about his "Journey Into the Light,"  featuring his travels, and his journey as a watercolor artist learning to create light-filled paintings.  Whether it's the subject matter depicting scenes of milder climates, or the airy quality of the light-filled studies, Balacki's works will warm up audiences with welcome signs of spring and summer.
Balacki states that "Watercolor is the medium, and light is the reason.  While perspective, composition, energy, emotion, and light all play an important part in choosing a subject, dynamic light is the most important."  Arts center director Wendy Skinner adds that "John's works possess a quiet, luminous, calming quality about them."
Commenting on his development as an artist, Skinner comments "The presentation could be subtitled "Journey to the Right," since Balacki transitioned his skills and knowledge from the fields of science and medicine to those stemming from the creative 'right side' of the brain."  A graduate of Canisius College in Buffalo, NY, and the George Washington University School of Medicine in Washington, DC, Balacki has turned in the last decade to instruction in drawing and watercolor.
This has opened up new opportunities for him in venues such as the The Strohl Art Center in Chatauqua, NY, and the Mitchell Gallery at St. John's College in Annapolis, MD. The Fountain Arts Center is pleased to support John Balacki's development as an artist, and to provide a venue where he can hone his skills in speaking about his art, and engage his audiences about its purpose and intent.  "Journey Into the Light" is part of the Fountain Arts Center's "Artists Among Us" program funded in part by the New York State Council on the Arts Decentralization Regrant Program with support from Governor Andrew Cuomo and the NYS Legislature and administered by the Cattaraugus County Arts Council.
Join the Fountain Arts Center and John Balacki for his presentation at 2PM, March 15, 2015 at 42 Schuyler St, in Belmont, NY.
