Follow me on a journey of quiet reflection, to a calming of your spirit that these images bring.  Forget your stress and relax………………

Growing up in rural Allegany County before the age of computer games, I spent a lot of time outdoors.  Our family would often explore State Park trails, back road areas or a new pond or stream to fish.  On these excursions, I found in Nature the wonder of the spring buds, a baby fawn, a view of fall colors along the stream bank.

Most of us have experienced those days when the noise around us and stress in our lives seems to consume us.  As I have grown older, I have found that nature can quiet my racing mind and relieve my stress.  One can achieve a feeling of peace, serenity and a closeness to God when surrounded by the quiet beautiful scenic areas that Nature provides us.  My photograph has evolved into an attempt to capture those feelings for myself and others to experience.

In Junior and Senior High School, I took several art classes offered at Alfred-Almond schools, but in the end I chose to become a science teacher, graduating with a BS in Biology, from SUNY Geneseo, and a MS in Education from Alfred University in 1971.  In the 1970’s, I was a juried member of the Genesee Valley Craft Council experimenting with oil painting and various craft media.

I drifted away from painting as my career, motherhood, Cub/Boy Scouts, and 4-H activities, consumed my time.  I was the one in the family to take pictures as we chronicled our family growing up.  It was when our 4-H club participated in a Photography Project that I began to look at photography differently.  Those lessons taught me about composition, exposure, and the elements needed to tell a story or evoke an emotion.

I started looking for those “moments that take your breath away,” scenes where God is drawing you into the scene to relax, reflect, and refocus your thoughts, or startle you awake.  I have been privileged in the last few years to  have been able to travel to some truly beautiful areas of the United States to photographs, as well as our own state of New York.

I am currently a member of the Wellsville Art  Association and have been a participant of their shows for several years.  In September 2008, I exhibited in the Wellsville Art Association Featured Artists Show as well.
