Karen Dickerson is a mostly self-taught artist.  She has spent many years delving into oil, watercolor, pastel, photography, drawing, stained glass, mosaics, printmaking, and acrylics.  Although flowing from one medium to the next, she has always  returned to photography, watercolor, and pastel.

Karen’s love of nature is a constant theme in her work.  Her photography background inspires her to take a particular image of a flower, animal, or landscape.  But the painter in her inspires her to imagine it in watercolor or pastel.  The variety in her work is derived from the amazement she experiences when she sees how vastly different a subject can look depending on the medium used.  For Karen, watercolor provides a pure and translucent color for flowers.  They can be vibrant, or sensual with muted backgrounds.  Some landscapes can lend themselves to watercolor, others to pastels, depending on the mood being conveyed in the paintings.

Karen has exhibited her award-winning work in dozens of regional exhibitions.  It can also be seen in permanent collections at Jamestown Community College, in Jamestown, NY.  In addition to her talent as an artist, Karen lends her abilities as an administrator for several organizations, most important of which are as President of both the Wellsville Art Association and the Allegany Arts Association, and a member of the Wellsville Garden Club, and the Monday Club.
